Matur OG Drykkur

Not quite known for the fine dining scene, Scandinavian cooking has always been for survival purposes with the difficult climates to grow in all year round. Matur OG Drykkur is basing its philosophy off of one of the oldest Icelandic cookbooks to date but giving it some modern flare and fun. Traditional Icelandic cuisine but modernized. Residing in an old salt fish factory, the vibes in this room alone take you back centuries of culture. With an open kitchen its a very rustic and nostalgic feel that really leads well into the menu.

I was able to try a few firsts here; horse being one of them! and it was raw too, Game of Thrones style..

Anyway, here are my tasting notes from dinner. Huge thank you to the team again at Matur OG Drykkur, what an unforgettable lesson and experience.

Halibut soup with mussels, apples and raisins

  • soup was very clean and smooth. Chunks of halibut were very tender. Apples were a great pop of fresh and crispness. The sourness of the apples was a perfect compliment to the creamy salty fish stew. One of the best fish soups i’ve honestly had.

Fried cod tonsils and Lovage aioli

  • very crispy. ; tempura style. Both tonsils and cod head were very gelatinous and sticky due to slow collagen breakdown. But very tender and flakey.
